About ADI Part 2

ADI Part 2 Driving Test

After passing Part 1, trainees are able to move onto ADI Part 2. There are only three attempts allowed at the Part 2 test. After 3 failed attempts, candidates must wait until 2 years after the date of passing ADI Part 1 before they are allowed to reapply to begin the process of becoming a Driving Instructor again.

The ADI Part 2 test takes approximately one hour and includes:

Eyesight

Candidates must read a number plate from a distance of:

  • 20 metres for vehicles with a new-style number plate

If unable to read the number plate, the driving test is marked as a fail, and ends.

Safety Questions

For the show me questions, candidates must physically show the examiner how they would perform a safety check on the condition of 2 components around the vehicle.

For the tell me questions, candidates are asked to tell the examiner how to perform a safety check on the condition of 3 components around the vehicle.
